Monday, May 21, 2012
Schedule for the Week and 6, 7, 8 notes
Monday: Chapter 6, 7, 8 Notes and get all tests from the semester (staple together in order)
Tuesday: Study for exam and Chapter 6, 7, 8 Assessment
Wednesday: Chapter 6, 7, 8 Assessment and study for exam time **collect books
Thursday: Study
NOTES:
Work is done when a force moves an object some DISTANCE (displacement)!!
Work has direction--positive and negative--can cancel each other out to have a displacement of 0)
Work=Force times displacement (W=F*d) (direction matters so label + or -)
Work label is JOULE (J) and remember Force=m*g or weight
(a meter/newton is Torque)
The more powerful machine it can do more work in a certain amount of time. Power is work divided by time. P=W/t
Label: Joules/seconds.....WATTS
Kinetic Energy and Potential Energy: The unit is joules. Because there has to be work to get either one of these types of energies.
KE=1/2 mass * velocity squared (just velocity is squared....) and label is joules
PE=
potential elastic: storing something in something stretched (like a rubber band)
potential gravitational:
PEe=1/2 k x2
K is spring constant and x is displacement
PEg=mgh
Potential Energy gravitational= mass times acceleration due gravity
times height
Law of Conservation of Energy:
- energy cannot be destroyed
- it can only change forms or states

D Day
Today was EGG DROP DAY! :) Those of you who were below our 6 x 6 will get the chance to redo some tests! Great job :)
We also provided time to review notes for the final exam--remember on Monday we will be giving you back ALL old tests for you to look over and review for the final exam.
Have a great weekend~:)

Review for Test
Egg Drop DUE THURSDAY!!!!!!!
something to think about ..........weight = mass * acceleration due to gravity (w=mg) so if you are GIVEN weight, then do not multiply it by g...........

Review of Friday Monday
So since Groh was gone Friday, I had no time to post so here is the review of Friday plus a few "tid bits" for thought...................
homework due Friday that we will actually check it tomorrow so do it........
when you push an object or pull an object with NO angle...... Normal Force = mass * acceleration due to gravity
when you have an angle, you have to take into account the F in the y direction and if you are PULLING IT you add F in y to the Normal force to equal mg and if you are pulling it....Normal Force=mg + Force in the y

2nd Law Wednesday
Practice C page 132
1-5
1-5
The difference:
· Gravity—Force
that pulls us down (N)
·
G—universal constant
(just a number)
g—acceleration
due to gravity (m/s2)
Because of Newton's 2nd Law: F=ma and therefore w=mg (weight=mass * acceleration due to gravity)
**remember we do everything in SI system....newtons, kilograms and m/2 ^2)

Universal Law Tuesday
Labels:
Force=Newtons (N)Mass=Kilograms (Kg)
Distance=Meters (m)
Acceleration=m/s squared
CLASS ASSIGNMENT: Page 128 Practice B, # 1 and 3
reminder: draw a picture, then make into a free body diagram
another reminder: F=ma

Just another Newton Monday
Review of Force Information from Friday:
Newton's Laws of Forces (click here to see the notes)
Tomorrow there will probably, most likely, quite certainly be a quiz on the three laws of forces....... perhaps, maybe you should study :)
